Sell in multiple countries

Your app follows your Shopify Markets. Shoppers see prices, availability and checkout for their country, in its currency, and can change country in the app.

Your app uses the markets you set up in Shopify. You don't set anything up in Vunda. When you add a country, change a currency or add a language in Shopify, your app picks it up the next time a shopper opens it, without a new build. (An app published before multi-country support arrived gets it with its next update.)

What shoppers see

  • Their country, suggested. The app opens in the shopper's country when you sell there. Shoppers from a country you don't sell to see your backup region instead: the country Shopify uses for everyone outside your markets.
  • Prices in their currency. Product cards, product pages, the bag and checkout all show the country's currency, with the prices Shopify sets for that market. Your app never converts prices itself, so they always match your online store.
  • Only what you sell there. Products you've made unavailable in a market are hidden or shown as unavailable for shoppers in it.
  • A country picker. When you sell to more than one country, the Account tab shows Country/region. Shoppers see the countries you sell to, each with its currency. Changing country updates prices across the app, including items already in the bag.
  • Their language, where you've translated. If a country offers more than one language, shoppers can choose one in the same place. Product details and checkout appear in that language wherever you've translated them in Shopify. The app's own buttons and labels stay in English for now.

The bag says Taxes, promotions and delivery are calculated at checkout. Checkout opens in the shopper's country and currency, so what they pay is what Shopify charges in that market.

Settings > Countries and currencies shows how many countries and currencies your app sells in, and names your backup region (Shoppers from anywhere else see…). Select Show all to list every country with its currency and languages. The list comes from the same Shopify data your app reads, so it always matches the app. To make a change, select Manage markets in Shopify.

Each time you open the card, Vunda also checks your setup with Shopify. For every country, it asks for a product that a shopper there could buy, exactly as your app would:

  • Checked with Shopify with Every country has products for sale. Shoppers in every country can buy.
  • Nothing is for sale in… Shoppers in those countries can open your app but can't buy. Usually the market's catalog leaves out your products, or those products aren't published to the Vunda sales channel or aren't in stock there.
  • Shoppers can't buy anything in your app Nothing is for sale in any country. Check that your products are published to the Vunda sales channel and in stock.
  • Every country is priced in… Local currencies are off, so shoppers everywhere pay in one currency.

The check can't see your shipping rates, payment providers or translations, so it doesn't report on them. Test a checkout for a new market before you promote it.

Set up your markets in Shopify

  1. In Shopify, open Settings > Markets and add the countries you want to sell to. (Source: Shopify Help Center - International selling.)
  2. To show local currencies, turn them on for each market. Your payment provider must support selling in local currencies, as Shopify Payments does. Otherwise every country is priced in your store currency. (Source: Shopify - About Shopify Markets.)
  3. Make sure your products are available to the Vunda sales channel and in each market. Your app only shows products that are published to it.
  4. To translate product details, use Shopify's translation tools, such as the Translate & Adapt app.

The customer sign-in page and checkout are Shopify's own pages, so they follow your Shopify settings for each market.
