Collect sign-ups with forms

Add app sign-up forms and understand Shopify/Klaviyo delivery, generated discounts, required access and privacy notices before enabling them.

Sign-up forms collect a shopper's email address (and, if you ask, their first name and mobile number) inside your app, with their marketing consent. You can reward each sign-up with a discount code. Forms live in App builder > Signup forms.

Two kinds of form

  • Pop-up. Choose Add pop-up. It slides up over the app at the moment you pick under Timing: Right after onboarding (a shopper who already finished onboarding sees it on their next app open), after some time in the app, or on a later app open. A shopper who signs up never sees it again. One who closes it sees it again only after the number of days you set.
  • Inline. Choose Add inline form, then place it on your homepage or a custom page with the Sign-up Form section. It sits in the page like any other section.

Where sign-ups go

  • Shopify customers (the default). The shopper is subscribed to email marketing in your Shopify store, so your Shopify Email and any app that reads Shopify's marketing consent picks them up. Today a shopper who is signed in to your app subscribes their own account's email in one tap, and shoppers who are not signed in are asked to sign in first. If your app does not have customer sign-in yet, a Shopify form cannot reach anyone, so Forms tells you to use a Klaviyo list instead. Sign-ups from shoppers who are not signed in will be added once Vunda can create customers in your store.
  • Klaviyo list. The app sends the sign-up straight to Klaviyo, with the consent the shopper gave. Klaviyo must be your active push provider in Integrations, and you enter the Klaviyo list ID (6 characters) the sign-ups join. Klaviyo sends a confirmation email if the list uses double opt-in.

If you also use Klaviyo's own sign-up forms (built in Klaviyo), Forms shows whether they are on. Your app never shows two pop-ups at once: a welcome offer comes first, then your sign-up pop-up, then Klaviyo's form.

Rewards

A form can hand out a discount code on the success screen:

  • One shared code. Everyone gets the same code. Create it first in Shopify > Discounts (source: Shopify - Discounts). As you type it, Vunda asks Shopify whether it applies to a test cart and shows Checked with Shopify when it does. A code limited to certain products, or with a minimum spend, may not confirm even though it is real.
  • Unique codes you upload. Paste or upload a list of single-use codes you created in Shopify. Each app install gets one code, and gets the same code again if it asks twice. When the list runs out, the form stops showing until you upload more.
  • A unique code per sign-up. Vunda creates the code in Shopify for each sign-up. Generated codes are not available for your store yet, and the option says so until they are.

With Add the code to the shopper's bag on, the code is applied to the shopper's bag straight away, so they do not have to type it at checkout.

The consent boxes always start unticked, and the form cannot be sent until the shopper ticks the email box themselves. In the UK and EU a pre-ticked box is not valid consent. If you ask for a mobile number, texts have their own separate box. Its default wording ends "Reply STOP to unsubscribe". You can edit both wordings under Text, but keep them clear about what the shopper is agreeing to and how to stop.

What Vunda stores, and what to tell shoppers

  • Vunda does not keep the email address, name or mobile number from a sign-up. They go straight to your Shopify store or your Klaviyo list.
  • For each reward code handed out, Vunda keeps the code with an opaque id for the app install that claimed it, so one install gets one code.
  • For sign-ups that pass through Vunda's server (sign-ups from shoppers who are not signed in, once available), Vunda keeps only a pseudonym of the email address (the signup_form_submissions data) to stop the same person signing up twice, and a log entry of the sign-up. Both are deleted when Shopify asks Vunda to erase that shopper's data.

Add to your privacy policy that your app collects the email address (and first name and mobile number, if your form asks for them) of shoppers who sign up, that you use them to send marketing they agreed to, and where they are held (Shopify, or Klaviyo). In App Store Connect, under App Privacy, declare Email Address (and Name and Phone Number if you ask for them) as collected and linked to the user, for Developer's Advertising or Marketing (source: Apple - App privacy details). In Google Play's Data safety form, declare the same under Personal info (source: Google Play - Data safety).
