Connect Judge.me reviews
Show live Judge.me review text on product pages and in a reviews carousel. What you paste into Vunda, plus the one Shopify setting that turns on star ratings.
Judge.me reviews show up in your app in two distinct ways, and they come from two different places. The review text (the written reviews on a product's page and in the reviews carousel) is pulled in with a Judge.me private API token you paste into Vunda. The star ratings on product cards come from a Shopify review metafield instead, which you switch on once in your Shopify admin.
The token only controls review text. As the Judge.me card puts it:
Star ratings on product cards come from your Shopify review metafields, not this token. So you may need both steps below to get stars and full reviews.
Unlike push and analytics, Judge.me reviews are fetched securely through Vunda's server, so changes you make here apply to your live app without waiting for a new build.
What you will need
- A Judge.me account on a plan whose reviews you want to show.
- Your store's Judge.me private API token (not the public one).
- Owner or staff access to your Shopify admin to enable a metafield's storefront visibility.
Step 1: enable Judge.me and paste your private token
In Vunda, open Integrations, choose the Judge.me card, and turn on Enable Judge.me. Then paste your token into the Private API token field.
This is a secret: Vunda stores it encrypted, uses it only on our server to fetch reviews, and never ships it to your app or shows it again after saving. If you reconnect later, leave the field blank to keep the token you already stored.
Step 2: get your private token from Judge.me
This step happens inside Judge.me, not in Vunda, so the exact screens are owned by Judge.me. Verify against their current guide before you rely on it.
In your Judge.me dashboard, go to Settings, open Integrations, and use the option to view your API tokens (Judge.me > Settings > Integrations > API tokens). Copy the private token, which grants read access to your review data and is meant to be used server-side only. Do not use the public token here. (Source: Using the Judge.me API.)
Step 3: turn on star ratings in Shopify
Star ratings are separate from the token, so they need one setting in Shopify. This step happens inside your Shopify admin, not in Vunda, so the exact screens are owned by Shopify. Verify against their current guide before you rely on it.
Enable Storefront visibility on the reviews.rating metafield in Shopify admin so the app can read each product's average rating. In Shopify admin go to Settings, then Custom data, then Products, open the reviews.rating metafield definition, and give it storefront access (the option to let storefronts display the value). Choose where reviews appear
With Judge.me connected, decide where the written reviews show up:
- Leave Show reviews on product pages on to display the Judge.me reviews list on each product's detail page.
- Add a Judge.me reviews carousel to a screen from the visual builder if you want review text on your home screen or other pages.
Save your changes from the contextual save bar at the top of the page.
After you connect
Because reviews are fetched through Vunda's server, these changes take effect on your live app shortly after you save; no rebuild is needed. Open your app preview, view a product, and confirm the review text and star ratings appear as you expect. If stars are missing but text is present, recheck the storefront visibility on the reviews.rating metafield in Shopify.
